Panaji: BJP Goa President Damu Naik said that the long-pending demand of Goa’s Scheduled Tribe (ST) community for political reservation has finally been fulfilled by the BJP.
Naik said that the BJP government, under the leadership of then Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, had initiated the process for ST political reservation in 2003. However, the government was brought down in 2005. He alleged that the Congress government, which was in power from 2005 to 2012, did not take any concrete steps on the issue.
Naik further said that after the BJP returned to power in 2012, an ST Commission was established and various schemes were introduced for the ST community.
Now, with the notification for ST political reservation having been issued, the community’s long-standing demand has finally been fulfilled, Damu Naik said.
