Goy Rakhonn Yatra Enters Porvorim, Saligao; Congress Raises Road Safety and Development Issues

PORVORIM/SALIGAO, September 25, 2026: The fourth day of the Congress-led Goy Rakhonn Yatra passed through the Porvorim and Saligao Assembly constituencies on Friday, drawing participation from local residents, Congress workers and supporters.

The day's march focused on road safety, traffic congestion, the Porvorim flyover and development-related issues in Saligao. The walk was also dedicated to people who have lost their lives in road accidents in Goa.

Addressing the gathering, AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakare alleged that the state government had failed to take adequate measures to improve road safety.

Thakare also questioned whether the Porvorim flyover had achieved its intended objective of easing traffic congestion and alleged irregularities in the execution of the project. He called for accountability regarding the expenditure incurred and the project's outcome.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar targeted Saligao MLA Kedar Naik over his decision to switch parties. Chodankar questioned the development achieved in the constituency following Naik's political move and alleged that ordinary residents had not benefited from meaningful development.

Chodankar also responded to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant's remarks concerning participation in the Goy Rakhonn Yatra. He claimed that the response to the campaign had prompted the Chief Minister to question its participation.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao also raised concerns over development in Saligao and alleged that development activity was increasingly visible on the constituency's hills.

On the Porvorim flyover, Alemao questioned whether the reported expenditure of ₹641 crore had delivered the promised relief to commuters.

“₹641 crore has been spent on the Porvorim flyover, but people are still facing problems,” Alemao said, adding that the day's march was dedicated to victims of road accidents.

Alemao said road safety would be a priority for Congress if the party forms the government in Goa and said comprehensive measures would be pursued to reduce road-accident deaths.

The fourth day's Yatra was attended by several senior Congress leaders, including Goa Desk Co-in-charge Dr Anjali Nimbalkar, MLAs Altone D'Costa and Carlos Alvares Ferreira, former Chief Minister and GPCC Working President Sunil Kawthankar, former MP Francisco Sardinha, Congress leader Vikas Prabhudesai, GPCC Vice-President Tulio D'Souza, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress President Dr Pratiksha Khalap, Youth Congress President Archit Naik, District President Shashank Narvekar, former District President Virendra Shirodkar, Saligao Block President Atul Naik and Porvorim Block President Anil Pednekar, among others.

Goa Vikas Party President Sarvesh Bandodkar also joined the Yatra and extended his support to the initiative.

The Goy Rakhonn Yatra continued its journey from Porvorim to Saligao, with participants engaging with residents and highlighting local issues as the campaign progresses through Goa's 40 Assembly constituencies.
