SHAME ON HOME MINISTER PRAMOD SAWANT FOR SENDING POLICE AGAINST 16-YEAR-OLD STUDENTS: GIRISH CHODANKAR

Panaji, September 7, 2026: Goa Pradesh Congress Committee President Girish Chodankar condemned the Sawant Government for allegedly deploying police to confront 16-year-old students who were peacefully raising their voices in support of their teachers.

“These children are not protesting against the Government. They are asking a simple and genuine question: Why are their teachers being transferred when examinations are approaching? Instead of listening to the students and addressing their concerns, the Government has chosen to respond with police presence. What kind of sensitivity is this?” Chodankar said.

He said the incident reflects the growing disconnect between the Sawant Government and Goa’s young generation.

“Gen Z is speaking. Gen Alpha is questioning. But the Sawant Government simply refuses to listen. Students who are worried about their education and want their teachers during a crucial academic period cannot be treated as a law-and-order problem,” Chodankar said.

Chodankar also questioned Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant’s dual responsibility as Home Minister and Education Minister.

“As Home Minister, Pramod Sawant has failed to provide Goans a sense of security amid the growing concerns over drugs, crime and shootings. And as Education Minister, he is now failing to take decisions that protect the academic interests of students,” he said.

He demanded that the Government immediately stop intimidating students and instead engage with them through dialogue.

“Students asking for their teachers do not need police. They need dialogue, understanding and answers. The Government must explain the reason behind these transfers and ensure that students’ education is not disrupted, particularly when examinations are approaching,” Chodankar said.

“Instead of confronting children, the Chief Minister should have the courage to face their questions. You have failed on every front. Goa’s children deserve better leadership, better governance and, above all, a Government that listens to them,” Chodankar said.
