Chicalim, October 2, 2026: Transport Minister Mauvin Godinho said motorists must take responsibility for their actions and strictly follow traffic rules to prevent road accidents and fatalities.
Speaking to the media during a cleanliness drive at Chicalim on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, Godinho said the government cannot be blamed for accidents caused by reckless or rash driving.
The minister stressed that while the government is taking steps to improve road safety, motorists also have a responsibility to drive carefully and comply with traffic regulations.
Addressing concerns over accident-prone locations, Godinho said members of the Road Safety Council would examine the identified zones and recommend both short-term and long-term measures.
He said several black spots had already been addressed, while the remaining accident-prone locations would also be reviewed to identify appropriate solutions.
Godinho also emphasised that enforcement measures, including AI-based traffic signals, alone cannot eliminate accidents unless motorists themselves follow traffic rules and avoid dangerous driving.
