KHANAPUR: A 42-year-old man from Vadgaon was killed in a road accident involving a dumper and a car at Chorla Ghat on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Sham alias Ravalnath Tuljai (42), a resident of Anandnagar, Vadgaon.
According to available information, Tuljai was travelling from Goa towards Belagavi when his car was reportedly hit by a dumper travelling towards Goa from the Jamboti side near Delta Resort.
The impact severely damaged the car and trapped Tuljai inside. Rescue personnel and Khanapur police rushed to the spot after receiving information about the accident and found that he had died.
Due to the extent of damage to the vehicle, rescuers faced difficulty in removing the body. A vehicle cutter was brought from Khanapur, following which a portion of the car was cut open and the body was recovered.
The body was later shifted to the government hospital in Khanapur.
The damage to the car initially raised concerns that other passengers could be trapped inside. However, the rescue operation confirmed that Tuljai was the only occupant of the vehicle.
A complaint has been registered at Khanapur Police Station, and further investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident and the circumstances surrounding the collision.
