₹6 Crore Projects Approved for Mining-Affected Communities in North Goa

PANAJI: The North Goa District Mineral Foundation Trust (NGDMFT) has approved projects worth more than ₹6 crore aimed at improving the welfare and socio-economic development of communities affected by mining activities.

The decisions were taken at the 17th Governing Council meeting, chaired by North Goa Collector Ankit Yadav, IAS. The meeting was attended by MLAs Premendra Shet and Dr Deviya Rane, Deputy Director of Mines and NGDMFT Member Secretary Ratnakant Govenker, along with representatives of various government departments and project agencies.

The council also reviewed the progress of previously sanctioned projects worth over ₹15 crore.

Among the newly approved initiatives are supplementary subsidies for rooftop solar installations under the PM Surya Ghar Yojana, assistance for farmers in mining-affected areas and scholarships for Mining Engineering students at Goa Engineering College.

The education sector will receive support through projects for smart classrooms and a Digital Learning Centre at Government Polytechnic, Bicholim.

In healthcare, the council approved the upgradation of the operation theatre and TruNat room at CHC Bicholim.

Other approved projects include an MRF shed for Sanquelim Municipal Council and a skill development training programme.

The council also approved measures to simplify and streamline the DMF project sanctioning process to ensure faster implementation. The Annual Report for 2025–26 was approved, while discussions were held on the preparation of the Perspective Plan and Annual Plan.

NGDMFT said the approved initiatives are aimed at strengthening infrastructure, education, healthcare, livelihoods and sustainable development in mining-affected communities.
