Senior AICC and Goa Congress leadership to walk with Yatris; special Gandhi Jayanti programme to highlight the struggle to protect Goa’s land, identity and heritage
SAKHLIM, OCTOBER 1, 2026:
AICC General Secretary and Punjab In-charge Sachin Pilot, a prominent OBC leader of the Congress party, will join and walk alongside the Yatris of the Goy Rakhonn Yatra in Sakhlim (Sanquelim) constituency on October 2, 2026, on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
Sachin Pilot’s participation will add significance to the special Gandhi Jayanti programme, as the ongoing Goy Rakhonn Yatra continues its journey across Goa, highlighting issues concerning the protection of Goa’s land, environment, identity, heritage and democratic values.
The Yatra will be joined by AICC Goa In-charge Manickrao Thakare, AICC Co-In-charge Dr. Anjali Nimbalkar, GPCC President Girish Chodankar, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and Lok Sabha MP Captain Viriato Fernandes.
GPCC Working Presidents Carlos Alvares Ferreira, Altone D’Costa, M.K. Shaikh and Sunil Kawthankar will also walk with the Yatris.
The programme will witness the participation of District Congress Presidents Mangaldas Naik, Shashank Narvekar, Rajesh Verekar and Assiz Noronha, along with senior office-bearers and leaders of the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee.
Office-bearers and workers of the Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress, Youth Congress, Seva Dal, NSUI and various Departments and Frontal Organisations of the Pradesh Congress Committee will also participate in the Yatra.
The Goy Rakhonn Yatra, which commenced on September 22, is traversing all 40 Assembly constituencies of Goa, directly engaging with citizens and highlighting concerns relating to land, employment, environment, governance, infrastructure, heritage and the preservation of Goa’s unique identity.
The special programme on Gandhi Jayanti will reaffirm the Congress party’s commitment to the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi — truth, non-violence, communal harmony, social justice and democratic participation.
The participation of senior AICC and Goa Congress leaders in Sakhlim will provide further momentum to the Yatra and strengthen the collective call for protecting Goa for present and future generations.
The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee has appealed to Congress workers, supporters and citizens from Sakhlim and neighbouring areas to join the Yatra in large numbers and make the Gandhi Jayanti programme a powerful expression of people’s commitment to safeguarding Goa.
