DABOLIM: Dabolim Airport Police have registered an FIR against around 15 to 20 unidentified persons allegedly linked to the Congress party following an altercation at Goa International Airport on August 17 during Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge’s departure.
The case was registered based on a complaint by Tushar Kelkar of Ansabhat, Bardez. According to the complaint, the group allegedly assembled at the airport and engaged in an altercation with people who had gathered to protest over what they claimed was disrespect to the national song.
Police have booked the unidentified persons under Sections 189(2), 189(3) and 190 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
The latest FIR relates to the same incident during Kharge’s Goa visit, which had triggered a political dispute between the BJP and Congress. Earlier, police had registered a case against BJP Yuva Morcha president Tushar Kelkar and others following a complaint filed by Congress worker Archit Shantaram Naik.
Both parties have given differing accounts of the events surrounding the protest and the alleged obstruction of Kharge’s convoy.
PSI Prathamesh Palkar of Dabolim Airport Police Station is conducting further investigation into the latest case.
