PORVORIM/SALIGAO: The Congress-led Goy Rakhonn Yatra entered the Porvorim and Saligao constituencies on its fourth day, with party leaders raising concerns over road safety, traffic congestion, the Porvorim elevated corridor and development in Saligao.

The September 25 programme was dedicated to people who have lost their lives in road accidents in Goa. Congress said thousands of locals, party workers and supporters joined the march.

AICC Goa Desk In-charge Manikrao Thakare questioned whether the newly opened Porvorim elevated corridor had delivered the expected relief to commuters and raised allegations concerning the execution of the project.

GPCC President Girish Chodankar targeted Saligao MLA Kedar Naik over his move from Congress to the BJP and questioned the development carried out in the constituency.

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao also raised concerns over development in Saligao and activities on the constituency’s hills. He questioned whether the reported ₹641-crore cost of the Porvorim elevated corridor had translated into the promised relief for commuters.

Alemao said road safety would remain a priority for Congress and spoke of measures aimed at reducing road-accident deaths.

The yatra, which began on September 22, is scheduled to cover all 40 Assembly constituencies before concluding on October 18. Congress has said the campaign will focus on issues including land, identity, heritage, corruption, unemployment, crime and social harmony.
