Illegal Sand Extraction Reported Along Chapora River in Camurlim

MAPUSA: Unidentified persons have allegedly extracted sand illegally from the Chapora River and stacked it along the riverbank at Camurlim in Bardez without obtaining the required permission from the competent authorities.

According to a complaint lodged by Bardez Mamlatdar Krishna Gawas on September 29 at around 7.19 p.m., the incident occurred before 2 p.m. on September 26, 2026, behind Prabhu Temple at Camurlim, Bardez.

The complaint states that unidentified individuals extracted sand from the river and subsequently deposited it along the riverbank. The illegally extracted sand was estimated to be worth around ₹10,000.

The complaint alleges that the act amounts to theft of a minor mineral, namely sand, as the extraction was carried out without obtaining the necessary permission from the competent authorities.

PSI Prakash Ghadi is conducting further investigation into the case.
